Film to Fiction: What We Can Expect to See on the Big Screen This Year

Along with hope and resolutions, 2013 also brings us more film adaptations of the Young Adult fiction we love. I’ve compiled the following list of movies I’m anticipating this year. Some of them I’ve read, and others I plan on reading before the movie comes out. Feel free to let me know if I’ve missed any good ones!

Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl: Beautiful Creatures (on my to-read list) February 13, 2013
Nicholas Sparks: Safe Haven (just read-review coming soon!) February 14, 2013
Stephanie Meyer: The Host March 29, 2013
Cassandra Clare: The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones August 23, 2013
Suzanne Collins: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire November 22, 2013

I’d love to know what everyone thinks of the casts chosen for these films. Also, does it bother you when your favorite books become movie adaptations? (Movie release information and photographs were compiled from IMDB.com)

  1. I love when they turn my favorite books into movies. Even if they don' t turn out to be as good as the book, and let's face it, they almost never do, I enjoy seeing the characters come to life and retell the story for me.

  2. I like seeing my favorite books turned into movies mostly because I want the author to be super-successful. I try not to work myself up for the movies, though, because they're rarely as good as the book.

  3. I have to admit, it used to really bother me when books I loved were made into movies. Reading can be such a personal experience and everyone relates to a story differently. I've gotten more used to it as it's become so common and I've learned to set my expectations low. It's actually kind of fun(if you haven't read a book and the movie is coming out) using the movie cast to visualize the characters when you're reading the book!

  5. I can't wait for Catching Fire! I've heard that lots of fans don't like Sam Claflin as Finnick, but I think he fits the role nicely. He's cute.
I still need to warm up to the guy they chose as Jace in The Mortal Instruments though. I don't like him as much. He doesn't look like the smirking bad-boy type. :/
Thanks for stopping by my blog! I'm following yours back. :D

  7. New follower and I love your posts!!
I'm usually so excited about books being turned into movies, that was until I saw Beautiful Creatures... I really thought it was the worst movie adaptation of a book that I've ever seen! It's pretty sad! Really looking forward to the Mortal Instruments though :)
